David Byrne of the Talking Heads Signs His
Book of Photographs
A hundred and seven people
snake past racks of
essays, biographies and plays,
eager to take home
a piece of David Byrne--
a signature, a photo,
a memory of celebrity.
He sits at a table,
a small dark-haired man
with piercingly intense eyes,
surrounded by neat stacks
of his brightly colored book,
giving a small piece of himself
to each who passes by.
"I am fascinated by fame,"
David Byrne writes;
the hundred and seven perhaps hope
that mystery will grace their lives
when Byrne's book comes to rest
on coffee tables and night stands
in their comfortable middle-class homes.
