Local docs not on site?

Possible -- most documents stored in email or local files (not well organized)

Yes, but in Serials/Acquisitions Dept.

Home page: design impressions

Likes clean, uncluttered layout

Clean and simple

Home button doesn't go home -- too many choices.  Heading area wordy/cluttered, but includes useful information. Maybe move main heading text to top. Tool bar clear.

Home page: what to click

"What we do"

"What we do"

"What we do"

Home page: other comments

Text nice, but pretentious - annoying! Not useful for in-house users; "What we do" (linked) document more useful for outside users.

Text jargon-filled for outsiders

Slow to load in Netscape (true for all pages).

Home page: default vs. directory

Unicorn Lib/Loc tables)

Interior page: design impressions

Not very friendly - not enough links. Big blocks of text daunting  - too long to view (edit down?). Bulleted items too closely spaced for readability. Text too long for display

Nice layout. Easy to read. Didn't like red text in tables.

Layout easy to use. Reverse order of labels in title (header). Small menu (document menu) works well -- top menu [present on earlier version] not necessary

Interior page: what to click

  --

Project description links

  --

Interior page: other comments

Default page for tables should be Green Library, not Archive of Recorded Sound.

Navigation: ease of use

Menu works fine; likes hierarchies to understand site

Menus work well. Found interior page by menu on home page (directory) because it was easier to see everything laid out at once. Overview button on page repeated main menu button.

Not always obvious where to find things - labels somewhat unclear. [User could not locate Unicorn pages without extensive experimenting with menu links]. Not clear what in menu can be clicked on what can't [in part a Netscape problem - cursor doesn't change shape]. Mostly uses bookmarks and not familiar with menu options.

Navigation: pages not found

N/A

Fairly often -- but mostly bookmarked pages whose address has changed

Navigation: index and search

Not used. Found index easy to use (liked new/updated icons). Intends to explore

Not used

Not used. Sometimes used site map [now removed]. Frequently uses page links to navigate between documents.

Other comments

Impressed with site and work that went into it.

Access of Dept. site/week

2/month

<1 x/week: 2 x/month. Online documentation easier to search than paper copies

Change since pre-June 2001?

slightly increased

Slight increase. Now easier to find documents

Typical pages visited

Cataloging policies & procedures pages; forms; some others visited when searching for specific info

Negative Decision; Spec. Coll., Series Authority; MARC Holdings; Staff copies; Accession # Generator pages; Contacts (other units)

Local docs not
on site?

None known

No. Unicorn training manual should probably be put on site.

Home page: design impressions

Likes simplicity - straightforward, to the point, no nonsense.

How do I get further in?

Home page: what to click

"What we do" - eye-catching link in middle of page

Home page: other comments

[Doesn't use home page because all used documents bookmarked]

Home page: default vs. directory

Prefers directory version

Prefers directory version - more useful and not too cluttered. Likes multiple ways to link into information

Interior page: typically used

MARC home page [intended to go to MARC document directory]

Cat. Policies & Procedures directory

Interior page: design impressions

Legible. Clear layout. What about a SUL/Stanford link at bottom of page?

Layout fine. Likes that layout largely matches paper versions

Interior page: what to click

What is little star [asterisk] by phone #s? Is it clickable? [links to note about prefixes].

Most interested in content -- not links.

Interior page: other comments

Information about prefixes a little confusing and could spelled out for clarity: (650)-72x-xxxx. [User visited page on RLG Authority Assistant]: Also clear cut. Liked summary at top of document

[Serials WF belongs to "Serials and Nonprint" category]

Navigation: ease of use

Easy to use, but always want to check out options

Navigation: pages not found

Home button has too many choices. Should go to Dept. home page?

Acquisitions data/documentation; a Data Control policy [couldn't recall exact policy] that describes who does what in each unit.

Navigation: index and search

Other comments

Likes color scheme; doesn't like purple scroll bar [visible in IE only] -- hard to read!
